My name is Monique, I’m 18 years old and I have been in the travel industry as a travel agent for over a year. In February this year I completed my Certificate III in Travel as a trainee through William Angliss Institute and I am now a fully qualified travel agent.
Since being a travel agent I have been on a familiarisation to Fiji, travelled to Vanuatu with my family, Thailand on a Contiki tour (where the photo of me on an elephant was taken) and some domestic travel within Australia which includes the helloworld Frontliners conference to Adelaide.
Being a travel agent is never boring! There is always something new to learn because this industry is always changing. Every day you are selling someone a new destination; one minute you’ll be selling a South Pacific cruise then you’ll jump across to another part of the world to sell someone a tour of India!
There’s always something interesting to look forward to whether it’s an in store film night, supplier breakfast, a holiday or famil to pack for, or a competition/incentive to win. The photo of my team and I was for the Qantas Holidays ‘In the Picture’ competition. For this competition we had to take a photo of the team with a Qantas Holidays logo or brochure and the most interesting photo went in the draw to win a set of suitcases. We got very creative for this competition and pretended that we were at the beach so we got busy moving furniture, getting beach props and posing with our tropical Qantas Holidays brochures!! It was a very entertaining afternoon and definitely worth all the hard work because we ended up winning!!
If you’re passionate about travel then I definitely recommend studying to become a travel agent! It’s such a rewarding and exciting job.
