Tour guiding students on a site tour of the MelbourneTown Hall

Today, the tour guiding students set out on a site tour of the Melbourne Town Hall. They were met by a very experienced guide, Ken, who took them on a 1 hour tour.  The students had to observe the guide in terms of creating rapport, information flow, group cohesion techniques, tailoring information to a specific audience and many other tricks of the trade.

They were incredibly lucky to explore behind the 9000 pipe organ to understand how this complex instrument works.

Students got to sit in the Lord Mayor’s chair, hear stories of the planning of Melbourne, the 7 sister cities, the importance of the Melbourne Room, etc. A few students  got very excited about seeing the hon. Mayor in person!
Another great way to prepare themselves to deliver their site tour of choice.
